The matriarch of the famous Murray-Bruce family, Margaret, is dead.
She died at the age of 95.
His son, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce of Silverbird Group, announced that Margaret passed on at 4:40a.m. on Tuesday.
He wrote: “Life. Indeed, like sand in the wind, today it’s here, tomorrow it’s gone. My mum is gone. She died at 4:40a.m. this morning. My gem of inestimable value, my support system, my best friend, my everything – she’s gone.
“My consolation is that in her lifetime, I gave her not just everything that money could buy, but most importantly, I gave her my presence, my time, my everything.
“On uncountable occasions, I will go to her house to hug her and play with her for no reason but love, the kind that only sons share with their mums. I love you, mum, and I miss you. This one hurts so bad. Forever yours.”
After her early education at the Convent School, Murray-Bruce was married off as a bride-child to her husband, William Murray-Bruce at age 16 and had her first child at age 18.
“I enjoyed the marriage and we were blessed with successful children. My husband used to work at the UAC, and most of my children were born in different cities. Lagos, Enugu, Sapele, Calabar, Warri, Ilorin, almost every part of Nigeria. Every two years, a child was born. They were very nice children,” she said in an interview with Thisday.
Margaret was a product of an Englishman, James Lee from Britain and Bessy Lee, a native of Bayelsa State.
She was born on a ship.
Her British father was an engineer with the Nigerian Marine.
“My mother was going to have her baby in Akassa, Bayelsa State, but she didn’t get to Port Harcourt before she had me on the Atlantic Ocean, on the ship. However, I grew up in Lagos,” she said.
