Breaking: Saudi club Al Ettifaq terminate Henderson’s contract

Al Ettifaq have agreed to terminate the contract of the club’s midfielder, Jordan Henderson, following a link with Dutch giants Ajax.

Al Ettifaq, on Wednesday, also agreed to let Henderson leave their training camp in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and return to England, as he searches for a new club.

Ajax remain in talks over a permanent deal to sign the former Liverpool midfielder.

On Monday, Sky Sports reported that Ajax were positive about striking a deal and hoping to do so this week.

In a post on his X account on Wednesday, football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, said: “Jordan Henderson, set to travel to Amsterdam before the weekend to complete Ajax move.

“All parties are working to iron out final details of the contract today.

“Medical being prepared, waiting on approval to proceed.

“After story revealed last week, deal almost there.”

The winter transfer window is currently open and will close at 11 p.m. in England and midnight in Scotland on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

To ensure harmonisation with the major leagues in Europe, the closing dates were set following discussions with the EFL, DFL, Serie A, LaLiga, and LFP, who will all close their summer and winter windows on September 1 and February  1, respectively.
