A member representing Zaria constituency in Kaduna State, Tajudeen Abbas, has been elected as the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
Abbas defeated the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Idris Wase, and Mohammed Joji at the 10th National Assembly election held in Abuja on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
Abbas polled 353 votes out of the 359 total votes cast while Wase and Jaji scored three votes each.
The voting process in the House was more of a coronation for Tajudeen Abbas, the preferred candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as over 98 per cent of members-elect cast their votes for him.
Meanwhile, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the President of the 10th Senate, while the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, Barau Jibrin, was elected as the Deputy Senate President.
