Governor Godwin Emefiele is back at his duty post at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) amidst reports of arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The apex bank in a statement on Monday January 16, 2023 said Emefiele resumed after a medical break.
The bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, issued a statement amidst reported arrest of the Governor.
Nwanisobi said: “Mr. Emefiele, who proceeded on leave in December 2022, resumed work today, Monday, January 16, 2023.
“The Governor resumed with renewed vigour to perform his duty ahead of the first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of the year scheduled for January 23 to 24, 2023.
“Mr. Emefiele remains committed to performing the task before him in line with his oath of office and the policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“While thanking the public for keeping faith with the Bank, we urge Nigerians to continue to support the policies of the Bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general.”

Meanwhile, the DSS has debunked reports that its operatives invaded the CBN headquarters in Abuja and arrested Governor Emefiele.
The Service’s spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a terse statement made available to The Star on Monday, January 16 stated that there was no truth in the story.
“The attention of the DSS has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16/1/23. This is fake news and quite misleading,” Afunanya said.
The Secret police has been making spirited efforts to arrest Emefiele since December 2022.
The Service recently approached the court to secure order for Emefiele’s arrest over alleged terrorism financing.
