Nigerian forward, Samuel Chukwueze, has emerged as the best African player in LaLiga for the 2022/23 season following a great campaign with Villarreal.
Villarreal made this known via a statement on Tuesday, June 6.
The club stated: “Samu Chukwueze is the best African player of the season! The Villarreal CF player received, after the end of the match against Atletico de Madrid (2-2), the LaLiga Santander African MVP Award that makes him the best African player of the 2022/23 LaLiga season.
“Samu Chukwueze has recorded some spectacular numbers in the domestic competition. In total, the Yellows No.11 has played a total of 2348 minutes in 37 matches. Samu, who has started 27 of them, only missed the match against FC Barcelona in the first leg at the Spotify Camp Nou (3-0).

“Chukwueze has handed out five assists and scored six goals, some of them of great importance, such as the spectacular brace he scored at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on 8th April.
“Samu is now enjoying his well-deserved award, after being voted by more than 30,000 fans and 26 journalists from the continent, ahead of other top African players such as Yassine Bono, Inaki Williams, and Youssef En-Nesyri, among others.”
Speaking, Chukwueze said: “I feel so happy to win this award.
“I’ve worked very hard this season, but I want to thank my teammates for making it possible. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible for me; and the coach [Quique Setién] too.
“When the coach believes in you, and gives you the confidence to play and enjoy yourself, it really motivates you.
“But I think I can still do more. I want to continue working hard. I’m still young, so I’m still learning. This is just the beginning.”
