Court sends 35-year-old man to prison for raping teenager

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Badagry area of Lagos State has remanded a 35-year-old man, Charles Chinonso, in Awarjigoh Correctional Centre for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate A. J. Aina remanded Chinonso after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of defilement and breach of peace on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

The prosecutor, Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the 35-year-old man committed the offences at about 8 p.m. at Ajangbadi in the Ojo area of Lagos in July 2023.

Adeosun said Chinonso “touched the girl’s private parts without her consent”.

He added that the defendant threatened to kill the girl if she revealed his sexual escapades with her.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 265, 263 and 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Aina, however, ordered the remand of the 35-year-old man and directed that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case until January 29, 2025, for mention.
