Court sends 70-year-old man to prison for raping 11-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, remanded a 70-year-old man, Michael Afolabi, in Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.

The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, told the court that Afolabi committed the offence at about 1:00 p.m. in the Iju area of Lagos in July 2024.

Iberedem said the defendant had canal knowledge of the 11-year-old girl more than once.

He told the court that the mother of the girl reported the incident at the gender unit of Iju Police Division that her daughter was defiled by the 70-year-old man residing adjacent to their house when schools were on vacation in July.

He said the mother narrated that the second time the defendant had canal knowledge of the girl was when schools were in session this year.
