Court sends man to prison for raping daughter

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, remanded a 42-year-old man, Christopher Israel, in the correctional centre for raping his 22-year-old daughter.

The police charged Israel with rape and assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that Israel committed the offence in Ado-Ekiti on September 21.

Apata alleged that Israel raped his 22-year-old daughter, who visited him, and also inflicted injuries on her while she was struggling with him.

According to him, the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 265 and 256 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand Israel, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, did not take Israel’s plea for want in jurisdiction.

Bamidele ordered that Israel be remanded in the correctional centre in Ado Ekiti, pending legal advice from the office of the DPP.

She, therefore, adjourned the case until November 6, 2024, for mention.
