The Zamfara State High Court sitting in Gusau, the state capital, has sentenced one Anas Dahiru to death by hanging for killing his friend, Shamsu Ibrahim, with a knife over N100 dispute in the state.
Delivering judgement on the case of culpable homicide, the presiding judge, Justice Mukhtar Yusha’u, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, convicted Dahiru and sentenced him to death by hanging for killing his friend as enshrined under section 221of the penal code.
Dahiru was said to have stabbed his friend following a dispute over N100 in 2017.
In a related development, the presiding judge also sentenced one Sadiqu Abubakar to life imprisonment for attempted armed robbery in Runji village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Abubakar was convicted for attacking one businessman in Runji.
Runji was said to have defended himself, arrested the armed robber (Abubakar) and handed him over to the police.
Speaking with newsmen after the judgement, the counsel for the plaintiff, Mansur Lawal, who is the Assistant Director, Public Prosecution of the Zamfara State Ministry of Justice, said the armed robbery case started in 2021.
On his part, the counsel for the two convicts, Muhammad Ahmad Jamo who is the Coordinator, Legal Aid Council, Zamfara State, said the judgement will serve as a deterrent to others even though he disclosed that they will look at the possibility of appealing the case.
