The university’s media office made this known via a statement issued on Monday in reaction to insinuations trending on social media accusing certain officials of the university of sexual misconduct while enforcing discipline.

The institution further challenged anyone victimised to report officially to its management.

It stated: “Recently, we have been inundated with messages of calumny from social media emanating from persons who contravened the university’s regulations and were, as a result, disciplined according to the regulation of the school.

“We have kept quiet because we think that we do not need to join issues with these individuals who are hiding behind their computers and internet facilities to be throwing invectives at the university.

“There are insinuations about sexual misconduct levelled against officers of the university – but they are just that, insinuations without any concrete evidence of the acts advanced to the university.

“The university has never shied away from dealing with any erring faculty or staff in her employment. Records and even society can bear witness to this. Position does not count, where indiscipline is concerned but it will be inappropriate to label anyone against whom there has been no proof or fact of wrongdoing.

“While we are checking within, we call on anyone with any proof to bring it up and watch if we do not deal with it appropriately. The university has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct irrespective of whose ox is gored.

“The university is set up on a departure philosophy in all ramifications of higher education administration, expectations, and deliverables. We have remained on this track from the beginning, and are committed to providing quality, life-applicable education, that will continue to create an enviable future for our students,” Covenant University said.
