A Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Joseph Egbunike, is dead.
Egbunike, who was in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID), was said to have slumped in his office at the Area 10 Garki, Abuja on Tuesday night.
He was subsequently rushed to the National Hospital Abuja and died at about 9p.m.
The deceased hails from Onitsha in Anambra State.

He headed the Special Investigation Panel constituted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, to investigate the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, over alleged money laundering.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on behalf of his Management team, and Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, has announced the demise of DIG Egbunike.
The IGP said the death occurred at about 9p.m. of March 8, 2022 at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness.
DIG Egbunike was until his death the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department and the supervisory DIG in charge of the South-East.
The IGP said DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.
“An officer with finesse and commitment to intellectual development and was instrumental to the achievements of the giant strides within the Police architecture,” Baba said.
The IGP condoles with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul.
