Bawa had been in DSS detention after he was suspended as the EFCC chairman by President Bola Tinubu.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu, on June 14, approved the suspension of Bawa as the EFCC chairman and ordered a probe into his activities while in office.

The suspension followed “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against” the immediate past EFCC boss.

He was later arrested by the DSS operatives.

It was however gathered that Bawa regained freedom at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Bawa, in a viral video, was received by his family members who were jubilating over his release from the DSS custody.

Confirming Bawa’s release, the Director Public Relations and Strategic Communications of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, said the former EFCC boss was released on Wednesday night but did not give details of the release.

“DSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a  few hours ago, today, October 25,” he said.
