EFCC arrests 20 internet fraudsters in Abuja, Akwa Ibom

The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested nine suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja.

The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this via a statement on Monday, July 29, 2024.

Oyewale stated that the suspected internet fraudsters were arrested at Wuye axis of Abuja on Monday following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related fraud.

He listed items recovered from the suspects to include 19 phones, one car, four laptops, and one iPad.

The EFCC spokesman added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Oyewale, in another statement, disclosed that the operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Oyewale said the suspects, comprising nine males and two females, were intercepted and arrested along Ikpa Road in a fleet of cars.

He noted that the suspects’ arrest was due to credible intelligence on their suspected fraudulent internet activities, lavish lifestyles, and naira spraying at events in Uyo.

The EFCC spokesperson stated: “Cars recovered from them include a Toyota Land Crusader Prado with Registration number: ABC 553 LD Abuja; a Toyota Camry LE with registration number: KKN 48 AE Akwa Ibom.

“Others are two Honda Accord cars with registration number: LSR 754 AQ Lagos and LSR 475 FN Lagos, respectively.

“Also recovered was a Toyota saloon registration number: RBC 1898J Abuja and a Lexus 300 saloon car with registration number: JJJ423 JK Lagos.”

He listed other items recovered from the suspected internet fraudsters to include 15 smartphones and 10 bundles of N200 notes.

Oyewale said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
