The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly arrested a groom-to-be and 49 others during bachelor’s eve in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
It was gathered that the groom-to-be and 49 others were arrested over their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
It was learnt that the suspects were apprehended after the EFCC raided several nightclubs and event centres in the Alagbaka area of Akure at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
Sources disclosed that the groom-to-be and his friends who were at one of the nightclubs for his bachelor’s eve were arrested and whisked away by the operatives of the anti-graft agency.
EFCC chairman warns youths: Stop presenting fake life online
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, told journalists that the EFCC officers stormed the nightclubs in different marked vehicles and shot sporadically into the air.
He disclosed that many people at the nightclubs were injured as they scampered for safety.
He said: “They (EFCC operatives) entered the nightclubs and lounges, tear-gassing people, beating them up and arresting them.
“They don’t care who you are; many people, including security personnel were injured as they shot tear gas canisters inside one of the clubs.
“They also went away with a groom and his friends at a club. He was there for his bash eve, so sad as they profiled everyone as internet fraudsters.”
The EFCC has yet to speak on the incident as of press time.
