The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, over offences bordering on corruption and financial crimes.
It was gathered that the Speaker was nabbed by the EFCC operatives on Thursday morning at the Muritala Muhammad Airport, Lagos State, following a tip off.
Though details of the arrest were still sketchy, it was learnt that it may not be unconnected with an ongoing investigation of the Assembly finances.
As of press time, the Speaker was said to be undergoing interrogation in the EFCC custody in Lagos.
A source familiar with the development disclosed that Oluomo had been invited by the anti-graft agency several times but he allegedly failed to honour the invitations.
In January, this year, the Ogun State House of Assembly filed charges against the EFCC and the impeached former Deputy Speaker, Oludare Kadiri, for image smearing.

Both the EFCC and Kadiri were jointly sued through an originating summons requesting an order of interlocutory injunction pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit filed by the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs sought to restrain the EFCC from taking further step, including but not limited to inviting, interrogating, imposing obligations and demanding or requiring attendance of the plaintiffs/applicants in connection with the criminal allegation made by the 2nd defendant/respondent against the plaintiff.
Associates of the Speaker had fingered Kadiri in the pending petition against Oluomo before the EFCC which detailed alleged various acts of financial misappropriation.
