EFCC drags Reps member to court over alleged breach of contract

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Mashi Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Aliyu Mashi, has been dragged to court by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) over alleged breach of contract to the tune of N50 million.

Alhaji Isa Gerawa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Gerawa Global Limited, had petitioned the EFCC and Kano State Police Command against the House of Reps member, whom he alleged had duped him the sum of N50 million.

In a petition letter dated February 25, 2022, and addressed to the EFCC and the police in Kano, Gerawa urged the security agencies to quickly commence an investigation into the matter.

The petition was titled, ‘Letter of Complaints Against Hon. Aliyu Mashi, for acts of criminal breach of trust, cheating and sundry offences’.

In the petition, Gerawa stated that sometime in July 2021, Hon. Mashi approached him and held himself as capable of consultancy services towards the award of the contract for the construction of Daura township road which was to be executed at N8 billion.

He said after convincing him, the Reps member and his lawyers agreed to sign a tripartite agreement of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2021.

As part of the MOU and for it to take effect the contract, Gerawa shall pay House of Reps member 10 per cent of the contract sum, and also pay, GHAS a company owned by the legislator, the sum of 5 per cent which is N45 million and also pay his aide N5 million totaling N50 million.

He said all the N50 million was paid to him as been requested, but after collecting the money the House of Reps member has failed to appear.

“Later on, we realized that the House of Representatives Member is not even representing Daura Federal Constituency, rather he was representing Mashi Federal Constituency.

“We tried to retrieve our money but he kept deceiving us, that soon he will pay but to no avail,” he added.

Gerawa, in the petition, stated that after realizing that Mashi was not ready to refund the money, he decided to take the matter to EFCC and Kano Police to get the money from the Reps member.
