The West Minister Magistrates Court in London, United Kingdom, on Thursday, ruled that the kidney donor in the case of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, is not a minor
It would be recalled that Ekweremadu, a senator representing Enugu West senatorial district, and his wife were arrested by the Metropolitan Police on June 23 over alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting.
The police authorities had accused the senator of conspiring to bring a child to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting, saying the victim was a 15-year-old boy.
However, the court, on Thursday, ruled that the donor, David Ukpo, is 21 years old, contrary to earlier claims that he is 15 years old.
The court later fixed August 4, 2022, as the date for the next hearing.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had last Friday ordered the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and others to release the Certified True Copy (CTC) of David Ukpo’s biodata to Ekweremadu, and his wife.
Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the ruling following an originating summon marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/984/2022, moved by Ekweremadu’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.
Others mentioned in the suit were the Comptroller General (C-G), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS); Stanbic-IBTC Bank; United Bank of Africa (UBA), and Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc as 2nd to 5th respondents respectively.
