The former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, has resigned from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi, who served as a minister during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, announced his resignation from the PDP via a letter dated Monday, December 16, 2024, and addressed to the party’s ward chairman in Ubadawaki, Kwara State.
The former minister said: “I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“I have had ample time to reflect, and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time.
“Mr. Chairman, please permit me to express, through you, my gratitude to the leadership of the party for the opportunities that I have had to serve the state and the country on its platform, and for the great moments we have shared.”
Ex-minister Osita Chidoka dumps PDP
Abdullahi was the PDP candidate for the Kwara Central Senatorial District and lost to Salihu Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election.
He served in Jonathan’s cabinet as the Minister of Youth Development in 2011 and as the Minister of Sports till 2014.
The former minister was also the National Publicity Secretary of the APC between 2016 and 2018.
Abdullahi, in August 2018, resigned as the APC National Publicity Secretary and defected from the party to join the PDP.
