Father, son drown in Kano well

A father and his son, Malam Bala and Sunusi Bala, have suffocated to death in a well in Sabon Garin Bauchi, Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, the father and his son were draining water from the well when the son got trapped in the well which led his father into the well to rescue his son.

Abdullahi disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.

He noted that 60-year-old Bala and Sunusi, aged 35, subsequently suffocated and died after they were brought out unconsciously.

“They successfully drained the well. In the process to clear the well, the son of about 35 years old, by name Sunusi Bala entered inside the well and became trapped and suffocated.

“Then his father of about 60 years old by name Malam Bala trying to rescue him, entered as well but very unfortunately, he was trapped too and suffocated due to the lack of oxygen in the well,” Abdullahi added.

He added that the victims were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead.

Abdullahi noted their remains were handed over to Wudil Model Police Station for further action.
