Fresh graduate, UNILORIN student arrested for selling drugs to colleagues

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a fresh graduate, 24-year-old Khadijat Abdulraheem, and a 20-year-old student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Kwara State, Ayomide Morakinyo, for allegedly producing and selling drug-laced cupcakes to students in Ilorin, the state capital.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Babafemi disclosed that the suspects arrested by NDLEA operatives at Tanke-University of Ilorin road, Oke Odo in Ilorin on Sunday, December 29, 2024, based on credible intelligence that they were producing and selling illicit drugs to students.

He stated that 42 pieces of drugged cakes were recovered from the fresh graduate and the UNILORIN student when their apartment was searched.

Babafemi added that the NDLEA operatives, on Tuesday, December 31, raided Mafarki, Dan Dishe area of Dala Local Government Area of Kano State and recovered 149, 090 pills of tramadol and exol-5 from a local dealer, 45-year-old Ismail Muhammad.

Babafemi said the anti-drug agency continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities to schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities, among others in the past week.

The NDLEA spokesman listed the activities to include WADA sensitisation lecture to traders at Ido-Osi Central Market in Ido Ekiti, Ekiti State; and Muslim faithful during their Juma’at prayer at Birnin Kudu Central Mosque in Jigawa State; among others.

While commending the anti-narcotic officers for the arrests and seizures, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), stated that their operational successes, especially their balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts, were well appreciated.
