The Lagos State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, rejected 17 out of 39 commissioner nominees of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
It would be recalled that Sanwo-Olu, on July 28, 2023, sent the list containing names of 39 nominees being considered as commissioners and Special Advisers-designate in his cabinet.
However, the lawmakers, at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, confirmed 22 of the nominees recommended by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Obasa said the exercise followed a rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by an ad hoc committee led by the Chief Whip, Fatai Mojeed.
The Speaker added that the exercise was in line with Section 182 Sub-Section I and II of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Those rejected by the lawmakers were former Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi; former Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho; and Folashade Adefisayo (Education).
Others included Yomi Oluyomi, Folashade Ambrose, Barakat Bakare, Olalere Odusote, Dr Rotimi Fashola, and Bolaji Dada.
