‘A Tribe Called Judah’, a movie produced by Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has become the first Nollywood film to surpass N1 billion at the box office.
The FilmHouse Group announced this in a statement on Thursday, January, 4, 2024.
The movie produced and directed by Akindele was co-directed by Adeoluwa Owu.
The movie released in December 2023 also set a new record to become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time and has made Akindele the highest-grossing Nollywood director of all time.
The FilmHouse Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kene Okwuosa, said the world is witnessing a golden era for Nigerian cinema, noting that the achievement indicates a creative industry.
Okwuosa added that despite the stiff competition from international streaming platforms, local content continues to thrive, engaging audiences on a grand scale.

He stated that the success of another collaboration between Akindele and FilmOne Entertainment, “Battle on Buka Street,” grossed N650 million at the box office in 2022.
He noted that the N1 billion milestone for “A Tribe Called Judah” was achieved in record time.
Okwuosa added: “The only other film that achieved 1 billion naira in the West African Box Office was a foreign title, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” in 2021, also distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.
“This outstanding accomplishment follows the success of Funke Akindele’s 2021 film, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga,’ which grossed 500 million naira, and 650 million naira from last year’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’, further solidifying her position as the clear frontrunner of Nigerian cinema.”
The star-studded movie featured seasoned actors, including Akindele, Nse Ikpe Etim, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, and Nosa Rex.
Others include Boma Akpore, Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke, Etinosa Idemudia, Fathia Balogun, Jide Achufusi, Olayode Juliana, Olumide Oworu, Paschaline Alex, Tobi Makinde, Uzor Arukwe, and Yvonne Jegede, among others.
