FUTO CE-sPESS announces inclusion of new courses in Centre’s Study Curriculum

The Management of the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (CE-SPESS) of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) wishes to use this medium to inform the general public that two new courses have been added to the Centre’s existing academic curriculum for Track A (Executive Short Courses).

The additional courses are in the Procurement Management and Social Standards programme areas, respectively:

A. Module 12: Agile Project Management for Procurement.

B. Module 12: Fundamentals of Social Work and Community Development.

The core objectives and target audience of the aforementioned courses are as follows:

A. AGILE PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR PROCUREMENT

Agile Procurement is a new method for streamlining public procurement to achieve faster and more adaptable alternative to procurement solutions. Unlike the traditional procurement’s rigid structure and upfront planning, it allows organizations to react to evolving needs that weren’t initially envisioned.

Course Objectives: –

The participants will be trained to understand:

  1. Agile Project Management, its core principles, benefits and challenges.
  2. Application of Agile Principles to Procurement processes.
  3. Agile Requirements gathering and Procurement planning, creating effective User Stories and Backlogs in Procurement Projects.
  4. Project execution and Contract management in Agile Procurement.
  5. Agile Vendor management and how it can be used to maximize value delivery and risks.

     Target Audience

  • Project/Contract Managers, Architects and Engineers.
  • Quantity Surveyors and Finance Managers.
  • Staff of Federal and State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
  • Procurement officers in Public and Private organizations.
  • Staff of Multilateral Development Banks.
  • Unemployed graduates seeking Procurement jobs.

B. FUNDAMENTALS OF SOCIAL WORK AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Nationally and globally, communities are facing complex social challenges such as poverty, mental health issues, and lack of access to critical resources. Hence there is an increasing demand for skilled Social Work professionals who can address these issues.

Course Objectives: –

The participants will be trained to understand:

  1. Core values and principles of Social Work and Community Development.
  2. Social problems and their underlying causes within a community context.
  3. Identification of the role of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Social Context.
  4. The role of self-care and professional well-being in Social Work and Development practices.
  5. Effective Leadership, Mentoring, Documentation and Reporting in Social Work and Community Development practices.

This course is ideal for the following:

  • Social Workers.
  • Community Development practitioners.
  • Public Health Professionals.
  • National Youth Service Corpers (NYSC).
  • Staff of Government MDAs.
  • House of Assembly and all Policymakers.
  • The Clergy and Traditional Rulers.
  • Staff of Non-Profit Organizations and International Development Agencies.
