Governor suspends commissioner for having affair with married woman

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has suspended the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, over an alleged illicit affair with a married woman in Kano State.

The Jigawa State Head of Service, Bala Ibrahim, announced this in a statement on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Ibrahim stated that the governor approved the commissioner’s suspension with immediate effect.

Ibrahim explained that the suspension was to pave way for a thorough examination on the allegation and uphold the integrity of the state administration.

He emphasised the commitment of the state to accountability and adherence to ethical standards in governance by the Namadi administration.

Commissioner arrested with married woman in uncompleted building

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and we are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the Head of Service stated.

The Star had reported that the commissioner was arrested by Hisbah officials in an uncompleted building with a married woman in Kano on Thursday.

It was gathered that the woman’s husband reported that he suspected an illicit affair between his wife and the commissioner.

The Director General of Kano Hisbah, Abba Sufi, confirmed that Sankara was arrested by the board officials.

Sufi added that the commissioner would be arraigned in court on Monday.
