Group to Tinubu: Address fuel, food prices for ease of living

A group, The Christian Conscience, has urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the rising cost of fuel and food items in the country.

The group said the ripple effects of the high cost of transportation as a result of the hike in fuel prices have become unbearable to the citizens.

“The government has to live up to its responsibilities by ensuring ease of living for its citizens,” The Christian Conscience, a non-governmental organisation, said in a statement issued after its monthly meeting held in Lagos on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

The Christian Conscience, in a statement jointly signed by its national chairman, Dr Yetunde Akinluyi, and the national secretary, Rev. Kolawole Verrals, said: “Mr President, there is hunger in the land, majority of our people are suffering. There is scarcity of food, with available ones being too expensive due to high cost of living. We need your urgent intervention.

Tinubu to Nigerians: Buy petrol at N1,000/litre or CNG at N200

“The government should expedite action on the CNG initiative which we believe will cut down on prices of fuel. We are told that your government is doing everything possible to make this initiative go round in the country, more energy and adequate funding should be deplored towards the programme.

“Mr President should also urgently intervene in the face-off between marketers, NNPC, and Dangote refinery so that the much-awaited succour we expected from Dangote can trickle down to the masses.

“Another issue worthy of note is the high electricity tariff that is causing small scale businesses to fold up.

“Though the improved constant and regular power supply is appreciated but then, it is the responsibility of government to cater to the needs of the people in these areas.

“We urge the government to find a way of reducing the high tariff across the nation.”
