Guard jailed for stealing generators

A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja has sentenced a security guard, Kabiru Yunusa, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two power generators.

Yunusa, 32, who has no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to theft and begged for leniency.

The prosecutor, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the complainant, Oluruwuju Toyin of Finest Event 7, Catherina Street, Zone 7, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, apprehended the convict.

Nwaforaku said the complainant arrested and brought Yunusa to the Durumi Police Station on December 26, 2023.

The prosecutor told the court that the complainant, on December 23, contracted the convict, as a security guard, to secure decorations and generators at Area 1 Roundabout.

Nwaforaku during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed to the crime, adding that the generators were recovered from him

Nwaforaku told the court that the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.

The presiding judge, Aliyu Kagarko, on Thursday, December 28, however, sentenced the security guard to 12 months imprisonment with a fine option of N50,000 and warned him to desist from crime.
