Ramatu Yunusa, heavily pregnant wife of the Zamfara State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Sanusi Gusau, has been kidnapped by bandits in Gusau, the state capital.
The bandits, it was gathered, whisked Yunusa away from her husband’s house in Damba area of Gusau in the early hours of Tuesday.
Gusau told newsmen in the state capital that the bandits broke into his house at about 1am on Tuesday and abducted his pregnant wife who is due to be delivered of the baby any moment from now.
The NULGE chairman said he avoided the assailants when they jumped over the fence into his house to abduct him but thinking they would spare his pregnancy wife.
He said: “They jumped over the wall and broke my door but before they could enter my room, I was able to hide somewhere.
“When they searched the house and could not see me, they abducted my pregnant wife, Ramatu, she can give birth anytime from now because her expected delivery date is this week.”
Zamfara State has been battling bandits’ activities for long with thousands killed and displaced to neighbouring states and communities.
Recently, the governor of the state, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, called on the state Commissioner of Police to give licence to residents to posses guns to protect themselves against the bandits.
The military, however, rejected the proposal, saying it will not solve the insecurity bedevilling the state.
