Gunmen have abducted a yet-to-be-ascertained number of students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that the students were abducted in Gandu community near the university on Wednesday night.

The incident was confirmed by the Head of Information and Public Relations of the university, Abubakar Ibrahim, on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Ibrahim said the incident occurred outside the premises of the university, adding that the institution has yet to ascertain the number of students abducted, their names, or departments.

Also speaking, the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said information about the kidnapping incident was still sketchy.

The police spokesman added that the command had unsuccessfully tried to get facts and the identities of the victims.

Nansel, however, explained that the acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Shettima Muhammed, had deployed adequate security patrol around the university to maintain law and order and to protect the area.

Meanwhile, the students of the institution on Thursday embarked on a peaceful protest over the persistent spate of kidnappings around the university.

The protesting students obstructed free flow of traffic on the Lafia/Makurdi road for many hours and it took the intervention of security agencies to bring the situation under control.
