Gunmen have attacked a military checkpoint at the Amangwu axis on the Amasiri-Owutu-edda expressway in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, said the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 2, 2024.
Ukandu stated: “The information reaching us from Owutu Police Division in Ebonyi State reveals that some hoodlums attacked a military checkpoint on Friday morning.
“It is not yet certain if there were casualties. The attack was carried out by suspected gunmen in the area, who operated with motorcycles.”
He added that there have been no acts of protests across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state following the ongoing nationwide protest.

The hunger protest, which is on its day 2 on Friday, started in some states on Thursday, August 1.
The youths in Ebonyi State have remained calm over the protest and economic activities are smoothly running.
The police spokesman, however, noted that no protest was reported in the state.
He said: “Ebonyi State is relatively calm; there have been no protests anywhere in the state.
“People have been going about their lawful businesses; the command deployed massively to ensure the state is peaceful for the residents.”
