Gunmen behead abducted Soludo’s lawmaker

Unknown gunmen have beheaded the lawmaker representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Okechukwu Okoye.

Okoye’s head was found on Saturday at Nnobi in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State where it was hanged by the killers.

His body was not seen where the head was hanged, raising indications the killers made away with the body.

The lawmaker was kidnapped last week with his campaign director, Cyril Chiegboka, in his Toyota Sienna car.

It was gathered that the police later recovered the car and deployed operatives to rescue the lawmaker.

The death of Okoye was, however, confirmed by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, saying: “His head was found along Nnobi road today (Saturday). There is no suspect in custody yet.”

Governor Soludo had on Monday called for the immediate and unconditional release of Okoye and Chiegboka.

Soludo, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, condemned the abduction and increasing wave of insecurity in Anambra State.

“The governor condemns the spate of insecurity across the state in recent times where innocent citizens have been attacked or killed.

“This is happening at a period when government is already reaching out to critical stakeholders for the restoration of peace and security to the state,” the statement partly read.

The governor said the spike in kidnapping and killing of innocent citizens undermined the sanctity of human lives, adding that no one or group had the right to take human life with such gross impunity.
