Gunmen break into lawmaker’s residence, abduct wife, children

Gunmen have kidnapped the wife and two children of Lawal Ayanshola Soliu, the lawmaker representing Ipaiye/Malete/Olooru of Moro Local Government in the Kwara State House of Assembly.

It was gathered that the victims were abducted following an attack on the lawmaker’s residence in the Shao area of Kwara State at about 1 a.m. on Monday, October 16.

Speaking on the incident on Tuesday, a community leader in Shao disclosed that the gunmen came in their numbers, shooting sporadically before whisking the victims away into the nearby bush.

The community leader, who declined to be named, added: “Their whereabouts have remained unknown although one of them who contacted the family was yet to make a demand for ransom, saying he was not with the others in the forest yet to harmonise the agreed price.

“But in the meantime, the lawmaker has been advised to relocate from the town.”

Also speaking, the chairman of the state vigilantes, Ibrahim Saka, said: “We have dispatched some of our men to comb the forest for their possible rescue.”

Confirming the incident, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said: “Details are still sketchy but I will get back as soon as we have a comprehensive update of the incident”.

This is the second time the lawmaker’s family will be abducted by kidnappers.

His wife and son were, in September 2022, kidnapped before they were rescued by the police after the payment of an undisclosed ransom.
