Gunmen kidnap 2 journalists, family members in Kaduna

Gunmen have abducted two journalists and their family members in Kaduna, the capital of Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the gunmen abducted the victims at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, identified the victims as the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abdulgafar Alabelewe, and three of his family members at Danhono 2, Millennium City, Kaduna.

Alabelewe is also the correspondent of TheNation Newspaper.

Hassan disclosed that the gunmen also kidnapped the correspondent of Blueprint Newspaper, Abdulraheem Aodo, and his wife.

He added that police operatives were trying their best to secure the victims’ release, saying: “We have deployed our operatives into the bush where the kidnappers are suspected to be.”
