Gunmen kidnap Benue Polytechnic Rector, other officials

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted the Acting Rector of Benue State Polytechnic in the Ugbokolo area of the state, Dr Emmanuel Barki.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, July 13, 2024, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, disclosed that the Rector was kidnapped alongside others on their way to Ugbokolo after an official trip to Makurdi, the state capital.

Others abducted by the gunmen were some management officials of the polytechnic and their driver.

It was further gathered that the abductees were herded into the bush with their vehicle abandoned on the highway.

The Adviser to the Governor on Internal Security, Joseph Har, who also confirmed the incident, said security operatives had swung into action to rescue the victims.
