Gunmen kill Kwara monarch, abduct wife

Gunmen have killed Oba Peter Aremu, the Onikoro of Koro-Ekiti in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ejire Adeyemi-Tohun, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the gunmen also abducted the monarch’s wife.

Adeyemi-Tohun said the traditional ruler was killed by the gunmen on Thursday evening.

“The gunmen invaded the residence of the traditional ruler in the evening and killed him and went away with his wife,” she said.

The police spokesperson said some police personnel, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Koro-Ekiti, were already at the palace of the late traditional ruler.

“They have begun investigations into the whereabouts of the killers, as well as the abductors of the late king’s wife,” Adeyemi-Tohun added.
