Gunmen kill Ogun APC councillorship candidate

Gunmen have shot dead an All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Adeleke Adeyinka.

It was gathered that Adeyinka from Ward 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area was shot dead around the Oke Ilewo area of the Ogun State capital on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The local government election in Ogun State has been slated for November 16, 2024.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the gunmen came in a tinted glass car, shot the councillorship candidate, and hit him with a stone before driving away from the scene of the incident.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident.

Gunmen kill councillorship candidate, brother in Kaduna

Odutola said the incident was reported to the police at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

She said: “A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals believed to be cultists arrived in an unregistered Toyota Corolla Sports car with a pump action shotgun and pistol at Jide Jones, Oke Ilewo in Ibara.

“The assailants opened fire, killing 40-year-old Adeyinka Adeleke before they filed to an unknown location.

“Photos of the scene have been taken and normalcy has been restored while effort is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
