Gunshots as police stop protesters from blocking road in Niger State

Gunshots rented the atmosphere at the popular Top Medical junction in the Tunga area of Minna, the Niger State capital, after protesters attempted to block the road on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The protesters had stormed the area to join others across Nigeria to protest economic hardship in the country.

Following an attempt by the demonstrators to barricade the road, the police officers stationed in the area fired teargas to disperse the protesters.

The protesters however attempted to reassemble while aiming at mounting a roadblock on the ever-busy road in the Niger State capital.

The development led the policemen to fire gunshots into the air to scare the protesters away.

The policemen and vigilantes were later seen removing the stones the protesters had used to block a section of the road.
