The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), on Monday, August 14, 2023, unveiled an online top-up programme for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders to convert their certificate to a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc).
The NBTE spokesperson, Fatima Abubakar, who made the announcement in a statement, said one of the portals was for HND holders who wish to acquire Bachelor’s Degree through online top-up for one year, with foreign accredited universities.
Abubakar said the development was also to facilitate the progression of HND holders to higher degrees.
Below are steps to convert your HND certificate to a BSc degree through the NBTE’s one-year program:
Eligibility: To participate in this program, ensure you possess a valid HND certificate from a recognised and approved polytechnic or monotechnic institution.

Admission portal: Visit the admission portal and login if you have already created an account.
Personal details: Provide accurate details about your existing HND qualifications.
Application submission: Once you’ve created your account and entered your information, proceed to submit a new application.
Course selection: Choose a course of study that aligns with the technical and vocational fields covered by the NBTE.
University and fees: Select an accredited foreign university where you wish to pursue your top-up program. Review the program fees and details on the university’s institutional profile page.
Application status: After submitting your application form, you can track the progress under the ‘my applications’ tab. To initiate the admission processing, submit the application form fee of $100.
Payment receipt: Download your application form fee payment receipt from the payments tab for your records.
Admission confirmation: Once your chosen university approves your admission, you can access your admission letter by navigating to the ‘my application’ section.
