The Oyo State Police Command says it has yet to ascertain the cause of Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan, the state capital, as well as the number of casualties.

The command’s spokesman, SP Adewale Osifeso, in a statement on Tuesday night, said the cause of the explosion was yet unknown.

“Also, no casualty can be confirmed for now. But the search continues,” Osifeso stated.

The Star had reported that the explosion occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday at Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of Ibadan.

The police spokesperson said: “The commissioner and the other officers have been at the forefront of rescue operations.

“The Oyo State Police Command has also deployed armed and plain-cloth officers to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

“So, updates are coming up soon.”

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Government, in a post on its X account, said: “The Oyo State Government is aware of reports of an explosion in Ibadan. Residents are urged to remain calm as security agencies are investigating this to determine the source and cause of the incident.”
