Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has ordered a probe into the shooting involving the police escorts attached to Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, at Club Cubana in the Victoria Island area of Lagos State.

This was disclosed via a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday.

Adejobi said the officers involved in the alleged shooting have been arrested and are being investigated.

He noted that the IGP has directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Force spokesperson stated: “The Police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident.

“Consequently, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.”

Ibrahim, one of the five police escorts attached to Burna Boy, was said to have opened fire on two fun seekers, Irebami Lawrence and his friend, identified simply as Tolu, at the club last Wednesday.

The shooting was said to have occurred after the self-acclaimed African Giant allegedly made advances at Lawrence’s wife.

Lawrence was said to have resisted the alleged advances at his wife, leading to confrontation between him and the singer’s police escort.

It was gathered that the 27-year-old man was shot in the thigh while his friend was hit in the head by a bullet.
