A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in the Apo area of Abuja has sentenced a staff of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, to seven years imprisonment for committing international passport fraud.
The Immigration officer was sentenced to prison after he was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a four-count charge bordering on gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage and cheating contrary to extant provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and the Penal Code Act.
Counsel for the ICPC, Dr Osuobeni Akponimisingha, told the court how Adeyinka defrauded one Ovie Justice Ojeffia under the pretence of regularising the latter’s international passport.

According to a statement issued by ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare on Sunday, June 9, 2024, Adeyinka received the sum of N100,000 from Ojeffia to regularise the passport but reneged.
The victim thereafter petitioned the ICPC, which led to the investigation and arraignment of the convict before the court.
Delivering judgement, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie declared that Adeyinka was guilty of all four counts charge and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment.
