The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Kwara State has again emerged as the ‘most subscribed institution’ by candidates in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Institutional Ranking for the 2022/2023 admission exercise.
The Director of Corporate Affairs at UNILORIN, Kunle Akogun, disclosed this to newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Akogun said the university was also ranked first in the category of institutions with the highest number of admitted international students.
The UNILORIN spokesman stated that the university had 70 international students, while Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna State, with 18 foreign students, was ranked in second position.
According to him, UNILORIN has been the most sought-after institution by admission seekers since 2013 and has been the winner of the JAMB award since its introduction in 2018.

Akogun said: “In 2023, the university won N150 million for being the most subscribed institution by candidates and N75 million for admitting the highest number of international students.
“The criteria used by JAMB encompasses five distinct areas, including most subscribed institutions by candidates, most national in terms of admission spread, most improved in gender balance, most students, and most compliant to admission guidelines.
“In the category of the most subscribed institution by candidates, UNILORIN secured the top spot with 97,351 applicants.”
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) followed with 75,967 candidates; while Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Anambra State had 58,956 candidates.
Bayero University, Kano attracted 57,150 candidates, and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Edo State garnered 55,455 candidates.
