The deputy governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has emerged as the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Namadi polled 1, 220 votes to clinch the APC gubernatorial ticket defeating his main contender, Sabo Nakudu, who garnered106 votes.

The Special Assistant to Jigawa State Governor, Auwal Sankara, in a statement on Friday morning, said Namadi, a chartered accountant and former pioneer head of Dangote Group Account Management Department, defeated other aspirants including Senator Ibrahim Hassan with 58 votes, Faruku Adamu with 13 votes, and Garin Gabas who scored 5 votes.

“Alhaji Namadi is the founder of Namadi, Umar & Co Chartered Accountants firm based in Kano was from 1993 an Associate member of the Nigeria Institute of Management, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation until 2010 when he became a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

“Ahaji Namadi was also engaged in research works, on Sources and Application of Funds, Auditing a Computerized Information System and Community Banking,” the statement added.

Namadi would slug it out with Mustapha Sule Lamido, a son to former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who equally clinched the governorship ticket of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Namadi is backed by the incumbent governor cum business mogul, Badaru Abubakar, while Lamido is banking on political pedigree of his father.
