A journalist, Nafeesa Vandi, has been beaten to stupor by her husband, Ibrahim Aliyu, a sacked staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), in Adamawa State.

Vandi, a mother of three, is a staff of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, Yola.

Reacting to the incident which occurred on Wednesday, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State council, described the beating of the female journalist as “unacceptable, wickedness, and barbaric”.

The union, in a statement made available to The Star on Thursday, said though the police have already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence, “the NUJ calls for a more speedy action towards the immediate arrest and prosecution of the said Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu according to the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The union further calls on national and international organisations like FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF as well as Civil Society Organisations that are propagating a total hault on violence against women to step on the matter for justice to prevail,” the NUJ stated.
