Kano commissioner rejects Ganduje’s order, resigns from cabinet

The Kano State Commissioner of Planning and Budget, Nura Muhammad Dankadai, has resigned from Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s cabinet.

This is contrary to the governor’s directive which stopped his Chief of Staff, Haruna Makoda, and three commissioners from resigning from their positions.

Governor Ganduje had earlier directed all political appointees seeking elective positions ahead of the 2023 general election to resign from his cabinet.

Following the governor’s directive, no fewer than eleven commissioners, including his Chief of Staff tendered their resignation letters.

However, while Governor Ganduje accepted the resignation of seven commissioners, he rejected the resignation of Makoda and three other commissioners in the state.

The reason for the rejection of the quartet’s resignation was not disclosed.

It was, however, gathered that Dankadai flouted Governor Ganduje’s directive and handed the affairs of the ministry to its Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Auwalu Umar Sanda, on Wednesday.

The latest development was confirmed via a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Sulaiman Dederi.

He added: “The Permanent Secretary, while accepting the position, thanked the outgoing commissioner and all staff of the ministry for their commitment, and promised to work closely with all staff of the ministry and adopt on open-door policy to achieve the desired goals.”

Dankadai is said to be nursing ambition to oust the current Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, as the representative of Doguwa/Tudunwada Federal Constituency.
