The newly deployed Kano State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, says he has resolved to utilise community-based policing that leverages on technology to tackle criminal activities in the state.
Lawal stated that the police would work closely with other security agencies in Kano for more secure and safer state.
The commissioner said this at his maiden press briefing since assumption the mantle of police leadership in Kano.
He said: “Our Policing strategy will revolve around Community-based Policing Therefore, we will partner with all sister security agencies including the Military, Air Force, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service etc.
“‘Operation Restore Peace’ will replace ‘Operation Puff Adder’ to tackle the menace of thuggery (Daba), drug abuse (Kwaya), and other heinous crimes within the state.
“Moreover, the following anti-crime strategies will be incorporated in the Command’s Action Plan: Robust Community Policing Engagements, Intelligence-led Policing, Visibility Policing, Use of Technology in Tackling Crimes, Synergy with Sister Security Agencies and Community Policing Stakeholders.”

Lawal added that he would lead the police in the state to bequeath a modern and professional police.
“I have lectured the Command’s Departmental Heads Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and other Supervisory Officers to work in accordance with the provisions of Police Act 2020, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Restore police primacy and bequeath to the nation a modernised, citizen-led, rule of law guided and professional Police Force that Nigerians can truly trust and depend on to achieve the policing mandate enshrined in Section 4 and 5 of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020.
“And to give full effect to the concept of Citizen-led Policing by deepening the implementation of Community Policing strategy, addressing ethical and professional issues that impact on trust and partnership between the police and the public, and embrace the content of policing in which police Officers see themselves as compassionate servants of the citizen,” he said.
The police commissioner stated that the robust structures of policing strategy he met in Kano State would be improved.
Lawal, therefore, called for the cooperation, support, and encouragement from the people of the state, saying “no stone will be left unturned as far as fighting crimes and criminality is concerned.”
