Nasir Gawuna
Kano State Deputy Governor, Nasir Gawuna, has emerged the winner of the gubernatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeating his sole challenger, Sha’aban Sharada.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the APC primary election committee, Senator Tijjani Kaura, declared Gawuna as the winner having polled 2289 votes against Sharada’s thirty votes in the primaries.
It would be recalled that Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had earlier anointed his deputy as his successor in 2023.
Meanwhile, Sharada has rejected the governorship primary election result citing flagrant abuse of process to favour Gawuna where delegates were denied their rights to cast their votes without interference.

Sharada, a House of Representatives member representing Kano Municipal Constituency, parted ways with Governor Ganduje in his struggle alongside now defunct G-7 to wrestle APC leadership from Ganduje.
He however asked Ganduje for forgiveness and promised to work for the APC in the forthcoming general election.
Prior to the election, Sharada alleged plans by the electoral committee to rig him out through contravention of Electoral laws and provisions of the APC constitution.
APC’s Gawuna would face New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as main challengers in the 2023 governorship election contest.
