Kano DisCo decries theft, vandalism on facilities

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has decried incessant vandalism and theft of its facilities in Kano State.

KEDCO lamented that due to such activities, the company has been recording losses, plunging the state into darkness.

The company, in a statement made available to The Star on Thursday by its spokesman, Ibrahim Shawai, called on the general public to protect their transformers and other facilities for the benefit of the company and the communities.

“Those vandalising our equipment are taking advantage of the rainy season to sneak into our transformers to vandalise cables, steal oil and other valuables.

“The danger of such acts is exposing the general public and even the perpetrators to disaster,” Shawai added.

He noted that the increase in the menace has caused serious economic losses for KEDCO while hindering efforts at guaranteeing constant and quality supply to customers.

Shawai, however, appealed to the people of Kano State to intensify surveillance in their communities as a measure to tackle the increasing cases of transformer vandalism in their areas.

“The management therefore, appealed to the general public to help KEDCO by reporting attempts to vandalise or steal any of KEDCO’s equipment to the nearest KEDCO offices or security outlets,” he stated.
