Kano govt pays N400m foreign students’ outstanding fees

The Kano State Government has paid the N400 million outstanding fees of students from the state, who are undergoing postgraduate studies in universities in Cyprus and France.

The state government has also awarded N3 million to a student, Suyidi Sani, for his sterling performance in the just concluded Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award.

The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Mariya Bunkure, made this known while presenting the money to the student.

Sani, who hails from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, came 7th in the competition and was the only northerner among the first 10 participants.

Presenting the money to Sani, Bunkure said the student has gained admission to study at Bayero University, Kano after scoring 303 in the 2022 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The commissioner said the state government has assured that it would sponsor his postgraduate study after completing his first degree programme, adding that the government was committed to uplifting the standard of education to global standard.

On his part, Kano State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Kabiru Lakwaya, said the state government was committed to the development of education in the state.

He added that the government had set up a committee to compile a comprehensive report on bursaries where millions of naira had been set aside to clear outstanding internal payments.

While recieving the cash, Sani said he would continue to put more efforts and would do everything possible to be among the best students in Bayero University, Kano.

He, however, applauded the Kano State Government, his parents, and teachers for always encouraging and supporting him.
