Reinstated factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, led by Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi, has lauded a Federal High Court judgement affirming its legitimacy.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the judgement on Tuesday, Sagagi said they (the faction) were grateful that the Judiciary is helping and shaping democracy in Nigeria.
He said: “First of all I want to thank the judiciary for helping and shaping democracy. And I am glad that the judge in his opinion and wisdom agreed that the plaintiff has misled the court.”
Sagagi further called on lawyers to always institute litigations that are genuine and of relevant to Nigeria’s democracy, saying the case was transferred from one court to another.
“I want to appeal to lawyers to please help this democracy by presenting cases that are genuine. This case has been moving from one court to another. We are going to petition the NBA and the NJC on this lawyer that is abusing court process.
“We are not going to allow it because by whatever it means we have to help this democracy for Nigeria move forward.”
Sagagi, who commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and party members for their support, called on the other faction of the PDP to join hands with his leadership to move the party forward in Kano State.
Meanwhile the other faction led by North-West Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, said as law-abiding citizens, they would continue to challenge the other faction using a legal instrument to reclaim the party structure from what he called “people that want to stop the party from winning elections”.

Sen. Gwarzo accused the other faction of using judiciary to try to destroy the party just as he alleged that their loyalty lies elsewhere not the PDP.
He said: “We’ve legal tussle between the PDP and the other group. Some group happened to be in the other party, in one party and claimed to be in the party.
“They’re using judiciary to see that they destroy the party in the state. But I’m assuring you that our party is one, our people are one and we aren’t going to leave any stone unturned for the successes or this party.”
He affirmed that the PDP “is party to beat in Kano and Nigeria”.
Gwarzo added that setting aside the earlier judgement restraining the other faction did not confer the legitimacy on the other faction.
“We are a law-abiding party. We are law-abiding citizens. We cannot quarrel with the court.
“The Judge has not said he has recognised the other faction. What he’s saying is he has withdrawn the order that he gave but we should come on Thursday to debate on the substantive issue to determine whether they should stay or go,” he said.
Sen. Gwarzo-led faction is challenging Sagagi-led leadership for allegedly being loyal to the former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, an allegation Sagagi denied.
