Lagos accident victim caught with 100 used Pampers, huge money

An accident victim has been caught with 100 used baby ‘Diapers Pampers’ and a huge sum of money in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State.

The victim, a passenger, was involved in an accident which occurred at Mosalasi roundabout in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos on Monday, April 24.

This was disclosed via a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq.

Taofiq noted that one person died while two others were injured in the accident which involved three vehicles – Mazda commercial bus (FKJ 88 XH), Tricycle (Keke Marwa KJA 369 QM), and a white Camry car (KJA 351 HG).

He stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Camry car lost control due to over-speeding and hit a commercial tricycle from the rear while the tricycle went off-balanced and obstructed another fully loaded Mazda commercial bus going to Iyana-Ipaja.

“One of the passengers inside the commercial tricycle involved in the accident was caught with more than 100 pieces of used small children ‘Diapers Pampers’ with a huge sum of money of different denominations, prompting suspicion of money rituals.

“He was immediately handed over to policemen at the scene of the accident,” the LASTMA official revealed.

Taofiq added that those rescued were immediately rushed to different hospitals by their relatives.

“Those vehicles involved in the accident were immediately removed from the road to avoid impeding free flow of traffic and handed over to policemen from Gowon Estate Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigations,” he stated.

Speaking on the incident, the LASTMA General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, said the accident was a “man-made” accident which could have been prevented if over-speeding was avoided.

Oreagba noted that the government had embarked on regular public education on danger inherent in over-speeding by both private, commercial, and trucks’ drivers across Lagos State.

The LASTMA boss, however, warned motorists to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition, particularly the break before driving them on the roads.
